In the years 1996 - 2001, when the Manne Siegbahn Laboratory had the status of a national research facility, annual reports were published. In its current role, as a centre under the Faculty of Natural Sciences at Stockholm University, the laboratory no longer produces annual reports. The previously published reports are available here.
The reports are available in the PDF file format (requires the free Adobe Reader).
Manne Siegbahn LaboratoryAnnual Report 2000 (4.5 MB)Editors: A. Källberg, E. Oppenheimer and A. Simonsson
The figure on the front cover shows the time evolution
of Schottky signals from a beam of Xe36+
ions that undergoes a transition to an ordered state. The signal intensity,
which essentially is proportional to the beam intensity, is colour coded
and displayed as a function of relative momentum spread (between –1×10-4
and +1×10-4
on the horizontal axis) and time (during 20 minutes from injection, starting
at the bottom of the figure). The transition to the ordered state takes
place after eight minutes and is seen as a sudden reduction of the momentum
spread.
